Donald Trump has owned several casinos as well as the Hilton hotel company. With so much money these companies easily bought out the mobsters and began running their casinos without mob interference. Legitimate casino businesses now keep the mob far away from their casinos because of federal crackdowns and the possibility of losing a gaming license at even the faintest hint of mafia involvement. Gambling addicts have also contributed a lot of money to help the casinos. Studies have indicated that people who are addicted to gambling generate a substantial amount of money to the casinos. It is estimated that five percent of casino patrons are addicted and generate about twenty five percent of the casinos profits.
Economic studies have shown that the net value of a casino to a community is actually negative and critics contend that casinos primarily draw local players in, not out of town tourists so casino revenue represents a shift in spending from other forms of local entertainment and that the cost of having problem gamblers treated and the loss in productivity from gambling addicts reverses whatever economic gains the casino may bring in. Calls to gambling addiction hotlines often increase by several percentage points over the months and years after a casino has opened in a community.
In case you have never seen or heard of the great Donald Trump through his many casinos and his tv show the Apprentice, here is a youtube video that gives a better understanding of Trump… It’s a great battle between him and Rosie O’Donnell:
Nevada was originally the only state that allowed legal gambling. Casino owners began to realize they could make money on the “destination” tourists who came to visit their casinos by putting a large number of them in one place. Of course it would add to the competition, but it would also help to draw in huge numbers of casino visitors from across the world. Atlantic City, New Jersey later followed suit and legalized gambling and Iowa legalized “riverboat” gambling in the early 1990’s. Other states, when they realized their citizens were travelling to Iowa to gamble, began opening their own casinos, while at the same time Native American casinos were proliferating at a rapid pace. In my opinion, Atlantic City is a great place to go to gamble. They not only have good casinos but they also have a beach and board walk and tons of things for the wife and kids to do while you risk all the money. Haha…but seriously, check out their website maybe you will see something you like:
Riverboat casinos are an attempt to allow gambling but limit its geographical and economical scope. The casinos are located on a riverboat that floats in a body of water and gamblers are only allowed to stay for the duration of a cruise that usually lasts about two hours. Riverboat casinos never actually move; the “cruise” is really just a time frame of two hours, at the end of which the gamblers must get off. These types of casinos may also set a loss limit of usually between $200 and $500 and this is the maximum amount each person is allowed to lose during one “cruise.”
