http://www.mmipublicrelations.com/images/uploads/logo_2010-super-bowl.gifThe Super Bowl- an American holiday- just came and went and broke the records for most viewed TV program in American history. But in the weeks leading up to this American Football Championship, it’s always fun to look at some of the proposition bets that people are making on the game.

You can clearly bet on the team you think will win. But there are so many other things that are very odd but can make you some money.

In Vegas, they were taking bets on things such as- What team will win the coin toss? Will the coin toss be heads or tails? Which team will score last in the 1st half? What color will the Gatorade bath be at the end of the game? Will there be overtime? Which team will commit the first penalty?

Those are some of the little things that make the game fun. Make small bets on things like that and enjoy the game. Keep this in mind for next season’s super bowl if you are a gambling fan!

    Star-Ledger

In the United States there used to be 2 places you could go to play table games (poker, blackjack, roulette, etc). Those 2 places were Las Vegas, Nevada and Atlantic City, New Jersey. People from all over the country would flock to those 2 places to get in on the action. It would be a special trip some people took once every year or two. Now people in many states can gamble in their own cities.

Because of the recession that has hit the entire world, various states in the US are having a lot of trouble with their budget. The is losing money and needs some to keep the state operating. Many states have decided that the best way to raise money for the government is poker. Places like Pennsylvania and Delaware have passed laws that would bring table games to casinos.

In Pennsylvania the law was already passed and the table games are coming within 6 months. Times are changing. A few years ago, nobody gambled and people thought it was for “low-lifes”. Now poker is always on TV, children are gambling in school and table games are popping up all across America- What a world!

    The Poker Playing Priest

With all the negative stereotypes that have surrounded the game of poker and poker professionals in general, it is rare to hear the great stories of what some of these poker stars play for or do with their winnings. Throughout the year, our favorite game of poker has been in the news for good reasons and here are a few of the prime examples:

    The Poker Playing Priest:

Father Andrew Trapp, a priest from the US entered the Pokerstars.net Million Dollar Challenge this year with one goal in mind. Win the event and give the money to the church to help fund the construction of a brand new facility. The cost of the new church would cost over $6million but this would be a huge step forward.

Unfortunately, he didn’t win but he and his church got thrown into the spotlight for his act of kindness and it also surprised many people (gambling is often frowned upon). He ended up placing second in another event to the great Daniel Negraneu and won $100,000 that he then donated to the church.

    The Golf/Poker Star:

Dusty Schmidt, a former golfer and now online poker player has also made headlines in a great way. Dusty was a pro golfer who got into online gambling. He’s so good at online gambling that he even wrote a book about how to follow in his footsteps. In an act of kindness, he decided to donate 30 hours worth of his online poker playing money to a homeless person charity. The result was a $21,000 donation to the charity which can now keep homeless people taken care of for 6 months.
